Ready to start wrangling those registrants into their respective corrals? Easy peasy.
If you haven't yet assigned your bib numbers, you can go ahead and hold off on that until you've set up your corrals. You can assign bib rules based on corral assignments (if you want), but not the other way around.
Step 1: Prepare
Before you go making corral rules and assignments, we really, really recommend you do some preparation first.
You'll want to know the answers to questions like:
- How many corrals will there be in total?
- How many spaces are available in each corral?
- What are the (time) requirements for each corral?
The first thing you should do is run a full Participant Details report. Be sure to include whatever information you're using to determine corrals in that data (e.g. Estimated Finish Time, or Verified Finish Time if you have that set up). Learn how to run a Participant Details report here.
Once you've exported the data to Excel, arrange the information so that you have an idea of how many participants will qualify for each corral. Be sure to include a buffer in the number of available spots in each corral to account for folks who haven't signed up yet.
If you need to make edits to the corral rules later, you can do that, but you will need to assign every corral placement (yes, all of them) again. If the corral placements also happen to be public (see below), this can cause some confusion among participants whose placements may have changed.
Step 2: Set up corral rules
Now that you've got your corrals all planned out, you can start setting up the corral rules. Here's how to get started:
- From your dashboard, click the red Bib + Corral Manager link on the left sidebar
- Select your event from the drop down menu
- Scroll down to the Corral Rules section
- Use the Add Corral Rule button to begin adding your corrals.
Each corral will need the following information:
- Corral number
- Name of corral grouping: (Enter name to define corral group)
- Total number of corral slots:
- Filter criteria: (Verified Time*, Participant Class, Category, Age, Gender)
If Verified Time is selected you will need to enter hh:mm:ss to hh:mm:ss for each corral. For example, Corral 1, 1:15:00 – 1:29:59, Corral 2, 1:30:00 – 1:44:59)
* Verified Time can only be used if your registration is integrated with Athlinks.

Step 3: Assign corrals
After you've created your corrals, you'll need to assign folks to those corrals. Just click the red Assign Corral #s link next to each to make those assignments.
Ta-da! Corrals are assigned, and the number of assignments per corral appear in the Used Slots column.
Corrals are not automatically assigned when created or when a participant signs up. In order to assign corrals for new participants you need to click on the Assign Corral #s link within the Bib + Corral Manger. Most Race Directors tend to log in every few days to assign new corrals.
Step 4: Review
Once you've assigned your corrals, it's a good idea to take a look at your participant data to verify everyone was assigned a corral as you intended. The easiest way to do this is to run another participant details report, this time including the corral number in the report. If everyone has been assigned a corral correctly, you're all set!
Step 5: Show on public participant list (optional)
If you want participants to be able to find their corral assignments on the public participant list, just scroll to the top of the Bib + Corral manager and click the Show 'em button across from the Corrals listing.
Good to know
If you are using Verified Time, one thing to keep in mind is that there will be participants with a 0:00:00 returned for their verified time. You will need to setup a corral to capture these runners, otherwise they will not be assigned. This corral can also capture anyone who entered their time incorrectly ie. Corral 5 0:00:00 – 1:00:00.
